Alan is an EVO Hockey sponsored player and one of Great Britain's top forwards. He has 113 combined international caps for Great Britain and Scotland and has scored 64 international goals.

Growing up in Paisley and starting his hockey at Kelburne, Alan established himself as one of Scotland's best players, winning Scotland Men's Player of the Year award in 2011 and 2012. He currently plays his club hockey in England, with Surbiton. He is the current England Hockey Player's Player of the Year winner and was top scorer in the England Hockey National League Premier Division last season.

Alan has represented his country at major international events, including 2 x Commonwealth Games (Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014) and the World League Finals 2015. In January 2017 he won gold at the England Hockey Supersixes indoor championships.
